The Road that Brought Me Home

The following is about a time when I was less than whole and how that was remedied.

The Road That Brought Me Home

The footsteps that I take are by your guidance
The path that I travel is by your design
The structure of my life is your creation
The meter of my pace is down your line
When I encountered you it was on a broken trail
And for all intent and purpose I was lost
Happiness was a long forgotten dream
And I wasn’t willing to sleep at any cost
Ironic, for my eyes were closed
My arms were down as the thickets beat my face
I stumbled over root and rut and stone
From the vines that tore me you were my saving grace
Your sweetness was the hatchet that cleared the path
Your kindness was the salve that healed my wounds
Your endearing love was the compass to help me right the way
And your arrival was not a moment too soon
All the agony I felt inside my shattered heart
It was an ailment that would not go away over night
I was embattled, I was beaten, I had cowered on bended knee
And somehow within me you sparked a fight
You gave me a gift that I will always cherish
You created a beacon to light my way
Your love is the road that brought me home
And with you my love I shall forever stay.
I love you.
